Clinical Research Centre (CRC) of Hospital Sultan Ismail Johor Bahru (HSIJB) was built in early January 2012. It was established for preparation of research activities in HSIJB. Even though it start off with only 2 staff in November 2012, CRC HSIJB manages to strengthen its position and currently consists of 9 staff including 2 study coordinators from Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM).
There are 2 research categories in CRC HSIJB; Investigator Initiated Research (IIR) and Industry Sponsored Research (ISR). The IIR involves studies with scientific and medical merit developed by an independent investigator while, ISR is defined as unsolicited, independent research where the investigator or the institution (academic, private, or governmental) serves as the Sponsor and provides support in the form of study and/or funding.
HSI JB is a hospital CRC (HCRC) that works to support and facilitate research activities in the hospital through the provision of database of clinicians interested in research by interest areas, track record on ISR and IIR for publications, as technical support such as statistical analysis, an administrative support such as providing research assistants and study coordinators, and to facility support such as IT, statistical software, and others, and work station. HCRC also functions to assist in the registration of research protocol to NMRR (National Medical Research Register) and application of grants for research. It is also established to participate in clinical trials and other research initiated and coordinated by the national CRC.
